Why are there black specks in my IKOU body scrub?

You may occasionally notice small black or dark specks in your IKOU Organic Salt Scrub or Organic Body Buff. While these can look unusual, they can occur naturally due to the minimally processed ingredients used in these products and are not a sign of contamination.

Organic Salt Scrub

IKOU Organic Salt Scrub contains Flossy Salt, an unrefined sea salt harvested from Australian coastal seawater through natural solar evaporation.

Because the salt is unrefined, it retains naturally occurring minerals from the sea. Occasionally, these minerals can appear as small black or dark specks within the salt.

These specks are natural mineral inclusions and are safe and expected variations that can occur in unrefined sea salt.

Organic Body Buff

IKOU Organic Body Buff contains organic raw sugar.

During production, organic sugar juice undergoes a concentration and evaporation process. Occasionally, the heat involved in this process can cause some sugar crystals to become caramelised, creating small dark or black flakes that may feel firmer or stone-like.

These specks are caramelised sugar crystals and are not a form of contamination.

Is my product safe to use?

Yes. If the dark specks match the descriptions above, they are a natural result of the ingredients and production processes used in these products and the product can continue to be used as directed.

As IKOU uses natural and minimally processed ingredients, some variation in the appearance of the product can occur between batches.
